I got this about a month ago but didn't want to post until I felt like I could give a real review of my reaction to the product.
So, I've been on the hunt for a good primer that actually:
1. Keeps my combination skin under control
2. Keeps my makeup on for longer (like a primer should)
My previous primers have included Rimmel 'Stay Matte', Revlon 'Photo Ready Perfecting Primer' and L'Oreal Paris 'Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer' (Yeah, that's a mouth full!)
Now I'm not saying these primers didn't do the job- I just feel like I still needed to find the perfect one.
Both the L'Oreal and Revlon primers had a wonderful consistency that was kind of thick but easily spreadable and once rubbed in, my face felt beautifully smooth. And yes, they did keep my makeup on for longer. The only problem: my skin would still get oily...which would then lead to my makeup to just look like a gloopy splodgy mess. Not attractive!
Inspired by honey’s golden glow, we developed a primer that neutralizes the appearance of discoloration and redness. Our innovative light reflective gold flecks create a luminous look that will help keep your skin looking radiant all day

The packaging caught my attention and looks and feels higher end. A golden lid, glass jar, gold flecks and packed with ingredients that are super beneficial for your skin...Sounds like a makeup junkies ideal product. And in my opinion- It is.
Most of the time when I buy a product for my skin, I tend to smell it- If I can't stand the smell then it's not going on. So I wasn't exactly sure what to expect as I purchased this online. It could have smelt really good or just terrible. I did have concerns that the honey would have been overpowering or may have smelt really artificial but it's surprisingly pleasant.
You can smell the honey but it also has an underlying (in my opinion) floral fragrance. And I don't mean a strong perfumed floral but fresh flowers. If you're like me and tend to get headaches from overly strong smells...not to worry lovely, this product is in the all clear!
"I'm probably going to look like a walking pot of glitter!!!"
Yep, that was my reaction when I saw the amount of gold flakes in this small jar but in fact, it hasn't caused any problems at all. Once you have applied the primer to your face, the gold flakes simply disappear but I find they don't necessarily help to create a "luminous look". They look pretty in the bottle but I think that's all.
Unlike most primers that you pump, squeeze or simply scoop out yourself, the NYX Honey Dew Me Up has a spatula. Erm weird right? I saw this and thought well that's going to be a pain in my butt! Guess what....It's not!
NYX have been really clever with this as it would have been a complete pain to scoop, too runny to pump out and just a big old disaster to squeeze - not to mention a total waste of product! The spatula is perfect. You don't even need to swirl it around to get the product out. Just a dip and you have the perfect amount to cover for your face. I also like how you can use the spatula to scrape all the product off onto the back of your hand or skin.
I saw the size of the bottle and amount of product inside (22ml) and doubted how long it would last. Firstly because it's not the biggest amount in the world but also because of the runny consistency of the serum. Not a problem! This primer does not dry until it's been properly rubbed in and I can tell it will last me a good amount of time as it spreads easily .
I've been putting this on pretty much everyday since I got it and haven't had doubts. Although very wet, it dries quick which is perfect for when you're in a rush and overall, I'm very satisfied with NYX Honey Dew Me Up- this actually exceeded my expectations of what I thought it would be like. Apart from not creating a 'luminous' look (on my skin) I really am fond of this as the packaging is lovely, it doesn't break me out, keeps my combo skin under control but moisturised at the same time. It helps keep my makeup on for longer, doesn't smell bad and was the ONLY thing I could put on my face when my skin was extremely sensitive! It doesn't have that horrible crumble/flakey effect that some primers have and for those of you who were wondering...the smell does fade away once it's been applied.
Would I recommend this? Yep- definitely worth it !
